All dogs enjoy treats, but for dogs with cancer, commercially sold treats will cause serious harm. ALL commercial dog snacks or treats, contain animal by-products, grains, fillers, chemicals, preservatives and dyes. They should never be given to healthy dogs, much less animals with cancer.
Here is a recipe for a wholesome and healthy treat for dogs with cancer. You can vary the ingredients to suit your dog’s palate, but most important is never to use grains (wheat based products) or sugars.
For Flour, instead of grains/wheat, you may use Garbanzo Flour, Buckwheat Flour, Pea Flour, Almond Flour, Coconut Flour, or Potato Flour.
Cara Mia’s Favorite Cookie – Using All Organic Products
You will require:
- 2 Cups of Potato Flour (or your choice as noted above),
- 3 Whole Eggs,
- 1/4 Cup Grape-seed Oil,
- 1 Cup of cut up cooked chicken,
- 1 Tablespoon of Turmeric,
- 2 Teaspoons of Garlic (powdered or fresh),
- 1/4 Cup roasted sesame seeds,
- 1 Cup of Ground Flax Meal,
- 1/2 Cup of Chicken Broth,
- 1 Teaspoon of salt,
- 1 Teaspoon of black curcuma seeds,
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda,
- 1 Cookie sheet slightly oiled with Grape seed Oil,
- Oven at 350 degrees.
Combine eggs (with shells; gives a good crunch and excellent source of calcium), oil, chicken, flax meal, and chicken broth in a food processor and blend until egg shells are very small. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, sesame seeds, salt, turmeric, curcuma seeds and baking powder. Fold the dry ingredients into the liquid until a soft dough forms.
You may roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness and then slice strips; or you may use a tablespoon to drop cookie dough onto the surface of the tray and smooth down with the back of the tablespoon (you may need to moisten the back of the spoon).
Bake for 20 minutes, and then turn the cookies over and bake for an additional 10 minutes. If your dog like crunchy treats, bake for an additional 10 minutes.
You may vary chicken for beef, different flours, or add more or different spices such as curcumin, turmeric, curry, jerk seasoning or cayenne.
Your dog will love these healthy treats – Cara Mia sure does!
